Not for emergencies, but it does work
I bought it because it's cheap. I bought it because it can sit on the dashboard of my car and charge. I bought it so I could sit by the pool and soak up free energy at the same time. The day I bought it, it rained. It rained the next day too. I was SO disappointed. The charger did not charge. Now that it's sunny, I can say that it does charge. SLOWWWLY. . .I'd say it takes two days with average sun. And, it must be fully charged before it can discharge to charge your device. That said, at the right price, it's quite nice.

Great Value
I couldn't believe that I could get a solar usb charger for $8.00, so I decided to give it a whirl. I love the pure automatic operation of the device. No switches to operate, no batteries to install. Just put it in the sun, or plug it into a usb port and charge it. It comes with cords and adapters that will work with many cell phones, and will connect it to charge it with usb. It does not include usb to micro usb cable for charging blackberry and other devices that use a micro usb connector. Just make sure that you buy one when you are buying this. You can get one on Amazon for about $1.50. I just leave the charger on a window sill that gets sun for most of the day, and in 2 days it's ready to go. I can't wait to take it camping, and see how it does. An unbeatable deal for less than $10.00. This device has a 800 mah battery, so it may not fully charge some devices.

Small capacity, but high quality
This is a well built charger, but the capacity is too small to be useful and the solar panel recharges very slowly. Attached to my smartphone, I receive at most a 50% charge. The solar panel is tiny and will take over a week to fully recharge the pack. I recharge the pack via USB and use the solar panel only as a way to keep the pack fully charged. This product has huge DIY modification potential. With basic electrical knowledge and soldering skills, the stock battery pack (a 1 cell 3.7v lipo, a 900mah model in my case) can be replaced with a battery of much higher capacity. I use a 5000mah pack that provides several full recharges to my smartphone. Because the voltage has to be stepped up from 3.7v to 5v for USB, this charger is less efficient than some other models.Great for the price, but of limited use without modifications.

Cheap
I charged it outside and it took forever for it to become fully charged. Finally i plugged it into my iphone and it wouldnt charge. I kept it in the sun and still nothing. Its worth the price paid. My boss was going to invest in the brand for an alternative power source...but since this item was cheap and didnt work i had him change his mind on this brand.

Great buy!
This piece is very useful. It charges my lg optimus very well. It charges fast with a usb charge, but takes a while via solar. You get what you pay for n' more. Good for basic device charging

Doesn't work for a Droid RAZR maxx
I had hopes as reviews were mixed. I lent the units to a friend and he reported that for the iphone it charged it a bit- (30%? I think it was an iphone 3.) Did nothing for a RazR. After plugging it in, it showed it was charging; a few minutes later, there was no charge at all showing. I am going to attempt this again with the phone turned off and see what might happen.
