Super fast but one issue when imac goes to sleep mode
This external ssd is super fast as much as iMac's internal ssd.As a test, I've copied 60 GB vmware image file from/to internal ssd and this product. It's like copying from internal to internal. But there's one annoying thing. After my iMac wakes up from sleep (external ssd mounted when imac went sleep),iMac complaint "Disk was not ejected properly" errors. After that, physically unmount and re-mount the ssd does not work. I don't know why. In this case, I have to push the middle of ssd device with my fingers. My device broke. iMac could not recognize the connection. So I sent it to VisionTek for RMA and today I received email from VisionTek."The TB3 External SSD shows signs of tampering and we are unable to provide warranty service. The security sticker and part number/UPC sticker stating "Warranty Void if Removed" has been removed from the device.'I've never tampered. I remembered that small sticker was attached on disk but no idea if it was still there.I think the sticker could be easily detached since it wasn't glued strongly. So I changed the rating from 4 to 1. VisionTek should make the device robust first.VisionTeck is passing the buck to me. It's definitely VisionTek's fault.

Buyer beware if you want a warranty
The drive itself works fine so far, but dealing with this company to register the product and activate the warranty has been truly bizarre. I purchased the drive as a gift for my husband, and they refuse to register the product in his name even after he has provided the original order email I received from Amazon, a picture of the drive showing the serial number, and a screenshot of the order history. I have never dealt with a company who refused to honor their warranty like this before, so now I'm concerned about the quality of the product. Don't purchase unless you enjoy getting the runaround.

Happy with my purchase
I did tons of research until I finally bought this NVME based T3 SSD. At first I was not sure about the brand but so far it holds up well. I actually like it very muchThe price, build quality and the speed, everything are perfect and it works very well with my macbook pro 2018.This is the speed i get with Black magic speed test

Much faster than rated speed!! Unbelievably good. Very impressive construction also.
I received this yesterday. Appears very well made and heavy with substantial fins for cooling. It runs cooler than another Thunderbolt 3 SSD I purchased and returned. Never more than mildly warm in the hand.Formatted it for the Mac and copied my Final Cut Pro Library to it. It works very well. So well that I decided to actually measure its Read/Write speed. It clocked around 2350/1950 Gbs on my Blackstone test program, very comparable to the speeds of the internal SSD on my new Macbook Pro. And also 4-5x faster than a SATA drive in a usb 3.0 port. This is much better than the 1800 Gbs rated in the listing and about double the speeds determined in an online review of the drive. They have obviously upgraded the drive to the latest specs.I am so happy I purchased another one this morning. At the price I paid ($145) for a 1 Tb drive it is a bargain!!Now we will see how long it lasts.edit: Works so well that I bought a third drive. Almost as cheap as a much slower USB3 unit and MUCH faster. Formatted them all as APFS drives with variable size volumes. I have one dedicated as a Catalina OS volume to try it out. It is just as fast as the internal SSD. Very snappy.

Drive disconnects if cable bent certain way.
The drive is blazing fast and performs better than the internal drive on my Mac mini. That is, when it stays connected. Unfortunately the drive disconnects if the cable is bent a certain way. I do not mean extreme bends either. Simply bending the cable as it is pictured in the item description causes the status light to go out and the drive disconnects. This is a real problem for me since I purchased it to be used as my boot drive for my 2018 Mac mini. I don’t think this would be useable as a portable drive since just a slight move in the wrong direction causes a disconnect. I also tested to make sure it was the drive and not the Mac mini port. The problem seems to be where the permanently attached cable enters the drive. I am hoping I simply got a lemon since the rest of the reviews seem mostly positive and I love the speed of this little guy. I have ordered a replacement since I am within the return window and will update this review if the new one doesn’t suffer from this problem.

Better than expected
Having purchased a 512GB model, I expected sub 1GBps write speeds. To my surprise, the unit behaved much closer to 1TB model in terms of throughput, utilizing all four PCIe 3.0 lanes - rather than just two that I anticipated. Drive details and speed test screenshots enclosed (connected to a baseline 13” Mid 2018 MBP, manually reformatted to HFS+ Journaled, and running on macOS 10.15.2).As others noted, drive’s design and build quality is solid: minimalist, robust, no-frills. Packaging, on the other hand, looks unattractive, plain and cheap. So in a sense, the final product is much better than the first impression it leaves. Haven’t had any issues with the drive yet, and apart from long-term reliability of the connector, don’t see any potential problems either.P.S. If the built-in TB cable breaks, it would be an inconvenience - but on the other hand, it is MUCH more stable compared to the original, detachable TB3 cable from my eGPU (Sonnet eGFX Breakaway Puck RX560). Unlike the latter, I can actually touch it and move the laptop, without worrying that connection drops, crashing the app (or worse, entire OS via kernel panic).

5 stars for this T3 SSD
I got the 512GB version of the T3 drive for the same price as a USB-C 3.1 drive which is amazing. I can't speak for the long-term performance of the drive since I just got it but the enclosure is durable aluminum and my speed tests on the drive with my 2018 Mac Mini are 920 MB/s write and 1377 MB/s read. I can't speak for the longevity of the NVMe chipset or built-in cord so ask me that in five years and I'll have the answer.
