Heartfelt and interesting stories of gods, goddesses and ancient symbols of yoga poses.
I love this book. Heartfelt and interesting back story of the author drew me into these stories. If you've ever wondered about the origin of yoga poses you will be entertained and informed by this book. Gods, goddesses, ancient symbols and morality plays along with instructions and explanations of some familiar poses fill these pages. Easy to read with beautiful artwork add to the charm of this book. As I said, I loved it.

Wonderful addition to your yoga practice
Yogi Zo Newell's book is a wonderful jumping off place for my own thoughts about the yoga poses I love. The stories are colorful and her questions about each practice and what it might teach me personally give rise to all sorts of thoughts.I hope she decides to add more poses to this collection.

Nicely produced book. Good info.
This book was recommend for yoga teachers as we are often asked why a pose was given a certain name. This book gives good explanations of the tradition and current understanding of the origin of poses. The photos and depictions in the book are well done.

Great book to help with teaching yoga classes
I purchased this as part of a requirement for an upcoming teacher training. I love the book, as it helps explain some wisdom of some of the yoga poses, that I found easy to incorporate into my teaching, without going too into detail.

This is such a beautiful book.
It is beautifully written, with colorful illustrations. It really makes you want to think deeper about what you do on your yoga mat. I wish there would be another volume with more poses in it. I would recommend this book for everyone who is interested in yoga.

Bring depth to your asana practice
Zo Newel explores the spiritual depth inherent in the yoga asana in this volume. She retells the myths related to certain postures and then provides a series of prompts to guide the practitioner in an examination of his / her mental, emotional and physical experience of the posture. Zo Newel has a sensitive approach to integrating the cultural matrix from which yoga emerged with asana practice. An enriching volume for students and teachers alike.

Elementare
Nel complesso deludente; scarsa la documentazione. Generico, superficiale e privo di ogni prospettiva storica. Anche la documentazione iconografica, che avrebbe potuto essere molto ricca, non è soddisfacente.

Poorly researched, poorly packaged and actually offensive to the culture.
Poorly researched. Zoe has just picked an Asana and then looked for any old story that would fit the posture. Even the images used are poor. The lady doing Natraja? Where is the elegance to the pose? What she is doing is more like a standard standing bow pose NOT the pose dedicated to the Lord.I actually find this book offensive. What a load of rubbish.
