I've upgraded to SSD and wanted to use my old 500GB HDD for backups etc. Bought this and it works great. It is a 5400RPM HDD but feels as fast as it was when plugged directly to SATA interface inside laptop.I've seen a few people confused about the two USB connectors. I'm not sure but it looks like the blue one with thicker cable is all you have to use no matter if connected to a USB 3.0 or 2.0 port. That is the connector that works and is compatible to both USB standards (and possibly USB 1.1, but I only tested with USB 3.0 and 2.0 as these are the only available ports on my two computers). The other connector is possibly only to be used when USB port has low power and cannot run the drive alone. At that point, connecting this to another USB port or possibly a power adopter might help run the drive (I've not tested so don't try it on my words, contact manufacturer or a better technical resource to be sure).

Did NOT work with Samsung 850 EVO, tried it on 2 computers one with just USB 2.0 and one with USB 3.0 but Samsung Magician and the Cloning application don't see the drive! Still worked using another free cloning application though, so was useful. NOTE that this was on Windows 10 computers and Samsung Magician is still not 100% compatible, therefore it may have just been a fault of the Samsung software and not the device.

Great buy for plugging in a 2.5" drive/ssd. I used it whilst upgrading a laptop to ssd. Plug the new ssd into this to clone the existing drive then swap the drives over. I've used this 20+ times to perform ad-hoc backups into the old hard drive and it shows no signs of wear. I'd certainly buy another. The cable on mine was a 'Y' cable utilising 2 usb ports to get enough power if using a hdd or just 1 if ssd.

Works great for 2.5" drives - fits a little loose, but lets face it, for the cost you can't complain. Doesn't work on 3.5" drives, but im unsure whether this is a problem with all similar products due to the power requirements of a larger drive. Still happy!
