Sharp!
For the price, this is a nice, sharp knife. It does feel a little cheap and plastic-y, but it's an ornament more than anything so who cares. I don't plan on getting into any knife fights. It's very attractive and, I'll say it again, sharp!

Happy with Purchase
The Sgain Dubh is really not bad. I was expecting a lesser quality, but honestly, it's not bad. The blade seems to be attached fairly well. The design on the handle and sheath is fine. It is an inexpensive way to up your look. Yes, you can pay a lot more and maybe get a better look. But for a few bucks, and the fact that when it's in your Kilt Hose, you are only seeing a fraction of the handle, yeah, works well for me.

The emblem is the best thing about this
This has a plastic sheath. Not what I was under the impression of. The plastic silver tip on the sheath had a very sharp prong sticking out from underneath it. I was able to break it off, but still. The handle is very thin cheap plastic. The emblem is the best thing about this! It is actually a metal coin like emblem embedded in the plastic. The blade is very cheap pot metal that is plated with cheaper silver. It is kind of sharp. I'm glad my husband is stuffing it into his hose and only the emblem on the handle will be seen. Great for Halloween, but not for a wedding or even Ren. Fair. It looks cheap. I know it doesn't cost much, but it looks and feels like it came from the dollar store.

Not what negative comments said
First some back story. I am sitting at home trying to recover from an upper respiratory infection and reading a book about knives and swords. During a deep moment of boredom I go to Amazon and look at knives and such. I spot the "Scottish" knife and click "purchase" sort of in a medicinal haze. A couple of days later I am looking over my orders (actually waiting for a medical supply) and I see the knife. Now a bit more clear of head I check it out and read the comments. "What have I done!" Oh well, what the heck I can use a letter opener.Yesterday it arrives and wow for less than $10.00 I did alright. The scabbard and handle are plastic, but well put together and sturdy. The spacer, throat, and chape are all metal. There is a blue "glass" stone in the top of the pommel. Now the blade. It is marked "440 Stainless China", it is a single edge with a small fuller running down about half of one side with file marks running on the top third of the blade. The blade is sharp! Sharp enough to do the "shave the hairs off your arm test." This is a good enough knife for someone wanting to top off their Highland dress without spending much money at all. As far as all the past negative comments all I can say is it may be a tale of many knives, made at different times and by different makers. I am well pleased with my $ 9.99 investment.

Not what it was advertised as
It served its purpose but I wouldn't buy it again, read a lot of the reviews but I guess I didn't read deep enough to get the whole picture. Cheap plastic handle and a blade that is just as cheap if not more so. The tip was broken when I received it so rather than a nice smooth point its just a sudden stop. The mold lines on the plastic are clear and evident, almost as if there was no attempt to clean up the product before finishing. The metal pieces on the edging and nicely detailed and look good, or they would if they weren't tarnished or rusted. With a little work it passes as a serviceable accessory with my kilt and at 8 bucks I guess you get what you pay for, if you're looking for a true Sgian Duhb, Heritage Of Scotland sells a really nice one as do several others on Amazon but if price is your selling point then this one works.
